Yoga therapy aims to improve a person’s physical and mental health using fundamental yoga techniques and tenets. There are several techniques under yoga, and combining them facilitates an effective integrated solution. The various yoga segments include:

Meditation

Meditation delivers a medium of stress relief and relaxation from the body to the mind. It generally involves physical detachment from stress sources and sensory improvements. Meditation techniques include body scan relaxation/meditation, breath awareness meditation, and mindfulness meditation.

Yoga Nidra

Otherwise known as Yogic sleep, Yoga Nidra goes a little further than meditation, involving the quick successive focus on individual body areas for stress relief. The end goal of Yoga Nidra is to induce an out-of-body experience and heightened senses, even during a deep sleep cycle.

Pranayama

Pranayama is primarily a breathing exercise that emphasizes control. The word is Sanskrit, which loosely means “control of breath.” All Pranayama methods revolve around inhalation, retention, and exhalation through the nostrils. Pranayama types include the cooling breath (Shitali Pranayama), humming breath (Bhramari Pranayama), and three-part breath (Dirga Pranayama).
