Problem Statement:
Design the home page for an animal rescue organization that rescues and treats pets from disaster zones.
Solution Statement:
To appeal to the group of working adults, my design emphasizes simplicity and sophistication. The use of orange as a primary color ensures a warm user experience and also makes the calls to action stand out because of its contrast. My design generally follows a grid-based layout that makes it easy to locate a particular section, especially for older users who are not very adept with technology.
The typeface serves to be modern and professional. The images of happy pets convey the successes of this organization while eliciting an emotional response from the user.

Desktop Navigation:
The navigation is divided into five main sections, with additional menu items that open up on hover. Some of the main items have arrows next to them, indicating that they can be expanded. On hovering over one of these items, the text color turns orange, indicating that its sub-menu is open. The sub-menus can further be expanded, as indicated by the arrows next to them.
The purpose of this kind of navigation is to minimize cognitive overload. My research and user testing found that people are interested in ways to get involved with the organization through pet adoption and donation, but first want to know about the organization's purpose and impact. The grouping of categories this way achieves that goal.
