The American Association of Neurological Surgeons (AANS) is a scientific and educational organization tasked with promoting the best quality of neurological surgery care. Recently, the Neurosurgery Research and Education Foundation (NREF), a non-profit established by AANS to promote neurological research, named Brandyn Castro, MD, a StacheStrong and NREF research grant recipient. The research grant was funded through an NREF partnership with StacheStrong, a charitable organization that focuses on raising brain cancer awareness and funding brain cancer research.

Dr. Castro’s research project, “Developing a patient-derived B-cell-based vaccine, a novel therapeutic agent for glioblastomas,” is expected to receive $50,000. Receiving the grant on behalf of AANS/ CNS (Congress of Neurosurgeons) Section on Tumors, Dr. Castro expressed optimism the funding will go a long way toward promoting her brain tumor research, which will be conducted at the Northwestern University Medical Center. StacheStrong has previously raised funds for glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) brain cancer research, giving many families hope in dealing with the incurable disease. The project’s selection is in line with the organization’s mission to fund multiple GBM clinical trials.
