This is an example of what I like to draw. I like having a strong focus on character design and usually draw with pencils for the most part. I do like experimenting a bit with different medias, I like writing about my characters that I draw and giving them a backstory. This is a drawing of businessman-man, a bit of a comedic character of sorts. This drawing was inspired by Superman when he pulls open his suit to reveal his superhero costume, but instead businessman-mans costume is another suit.
Here is businessman-man again. I started developing his character and decided to give him a scarf, it acts as a kind of cape. This time I decided to paint pieces of paper certain colours, cut them out and stick them down to make this collage mixed media piece. I'm very happy with the outcome as the texture and colours give it depth.
I always wanted to draw comic books, so developing businessman-man into a comic book was something I had to do. His whimsical nature sounded great put on paper as I wanted to develop his storyline more in a different medium. I will re-visit this piece in the future.
I was experimenting for a while in drawing with pens. I liked the deeper thicker lines of pens as it made the picture pop. I always go back to drawing superhero's and villains, and the joker is such a fun character to interpret. The only problem with pens is that you can't make mistakes but the mistakes tend to add to the picture somehow.
This was a piece of artwork I made for my brother, as he's a huge doctor who fan. I wanted to draw his favourite doctor, Sylvester McCoy! I enjoy drawing detailed pencil drawings for presents as they tend to come off pretty nice. When I draw an accurate representation of someone I use a lot of external references to build the picture I am looking for. Sometimes I will take certain aspects from each photo and merge them into one. Therefore making a unique representation of the character.
I thoroughly enjoy drawing darker grittier characters and silly characters. This character named Seth Crowle is a guy who has a deep tragic back story, whereas the above businessman-man is an example of a whimsical character. Whilst at college I focused my art project on 'change'. I drew a lot of characters who began as good and through traumatic circumstances became evil. Seth Crowle became a bit of an antihero who dressed up as his alter ego the steel crow. This first picture of him is before he got his vigilante costume.
This is a later picture of The steel crow that I drew on a canvas. Its a blend of pencils and pens. I started designing how his costume would look like, like his signature metal beak mask which resembles plague doctors. During the last major project at college I focused on the steel crow and ended up creating an entire alleyway set for him. Once I created his costume and mask, people could experience walking into the alleyway to turn the corner and see him standing there. I loved seeing their spooked faces when this creepy character jumped them.
This is a drawing of my girlfriend as a superhero. She managed to whack her knee on almost everything and thus I joked she was a superhero called the red knee. I keep trying to use colour in some of my drawings as well as develop my backgrounds as I would say that isn't my strong point. This one was a simple background but I liked how it turned out. Again, I also added a bit of comic book vibes to this with the issue number and big bold title.
This was another character I really enjoyed creating, he's an ash man named Ashes. I think with his design he is fairly simplistic but also looks very sinister. Below is a reflection of him as a human and him as ash. I used tracing paper to mimic the reflection and I really like how it looks. He also smokes, maybe a bit too much.
This is Ashes again in more of an everyday environment. I wanted to experiment drawing a background, scene and placing him in a different position. He is hiding in a bus stop as water is his weakness.
As my art was developing from college I started creating pieces of art with nails and staples. I decided I wanted to paint ashes and make a semi realistic picture of him using a bit of mixed media. This is one of my proudest pieces, I don't do much painting but I like how this turned out. I used the staples to give the darker colours a bit of contrast.
These are some examples of the nail art I did at college. I focused on creating animals from man made materials such as pins, nails and staples. This was very time consuming as I'd start by lightly drawing an animal and afterwards I would place the pins. My favourite piece is the black rhino with reflective sheet on it as you could see your reflection in the rhino. This was to symbolise the destructive nature humans have on the environment.
Also during college I did a fair bit of abstract art, we started the course doing free association drawings. Drawing what came into our minds and a lot of what came out of mine was fairly abstract stuff. I originally drew the picture on the right with charcoal, then found the creation interesting, I experimented with dyes and wax for the picture on the left. I am fairly fond of these pictures even though I don't completely know where they are from or what they are. I always see a bit of a evil face in them.
This was a few initial sketches for a character I designed for a videogame. I was a patreon to someone who was making a mobile game and needed characters for the game. My idea was to make a yeti who lived in the ice levels in a hidden cave. I was trying to draw a few various faces to see which would work for the character. He then went on to use these in his mobile game super donuts.
During secondary school, we had to pick a topic for GCSE. I chose the topic, animals. I experimented by drawing many different animals that I liked, I saw this picture of a hammerhead shark that someone else drew. I decided to also draw it but with oil pastels. We did quite a bit with oil pastels at the time, I remember not liking them as they made it hard to draw accurately. However my hammerhead shark turned out pretty good.
This is a drawing I did of my girlfriend when we went for a walk into the woods to draw something naturalistic. Instead she got frustrated and I decided to draw that frustration. This was a quick 5 minute drawing of her, to me I found it fun drawing something under time restraint and within nature.
Inspired from a videogame called monster hunter, I created a monster called discdillo. A blend of disco ball and armadillo. Within the game, he would roll after you with its hard shell and try and flatten you.  At this same time I started creating little creatures similar to Pokémon drawings such as Clutterful. I felt like I wanted to step back a bit from more detailed drawings as they take more time. So I decided on more simplistic cartoon styled drawings as I wanted the freedom to experiment without the perfection. I've drawn many of them over the past year or two but Clutterful is one of my favourites. I loved adding all the small details of the clutter on him.
