Project Summary:

This project required  us to create a horizontal/panoramic layout that showcases a narrative photographically, through the use of one or more of the mentioned visual qualities (shape, texture, pattern, form and or colour and tonal values). The sequence should not have any sort of obvious story or visual narrative and must remain an abstract piece. The sequence should consist of three documentary and two fashion images.

Project Specifications and Deliverables:

A unique series of 5 images, printed on a single canvas, comprised of three grey scale documentary photos and two greyscale or colour fashion photos. A digital version in the form of a tiff or jpeg.

Project Rationale:

For my narrative photo series, I chose to use a combination of form, pattern and texture- first found in the beautiful suburbs of Parkhurst. I focused on the gritty textures of old walls and dilapidated houses, with overgrowing ferns, interesting plants and weather worn roads. This was pared by fashion shots of two female models, shot with a plain or textured background to contrast what they were wearing.

Process Work:

Observation:

Before we set out to take photos, we had to observe photos that we thought were good, in order to determine what made it that way, as well as to see how well we could distinguish between the different visual qualities.
