IOW 300.3 Corporate Identity and Packaging

Project Summary
The design discipline of designing a corporate identity hinges on interpretive thinking as well as the combination of type and image. I was assigned the theme of the Roman Empire and the commodity of jelly products. The project required me to create to create an identity for the commodity which could also be applied to packaging. The project demanded intensive planning taking everything from the specific target audiences, finding a name, creating a logo as well as any other visual elements needed to create a coherent brand.

Design Strategy
My design strategy is to research, conceptualise and execute. This projects first step is to research the Roman empire and what jelly products currently exist which would match the Roman empire. I was drawn to the glory and gore of the Colosseum, The lavishness and violence was intriguing. It feels legendary and this informed my target audience - young boys who like to fight and be adventurous. I used Astrix and Obelix as a baseline reference to create a mascot and a little comic strip to tell the myth of the Colosseum  again. However mid-way through conceptualisation I realised having boys killing Lions in their imaginations might arouse some animal activism. So I flipped the story. Instead of having humans fight animals like in the Colosseum I had the Roman soldiers play cat and mouse to capture the lion and it made for a fun comic.
