This project was by far my favorite I have made! The goal in this was to create a sticker design. As a former Field Hockey player I have found that there aren't very many field hockey designs out there. I decided to design field hockey players doing different field hockey moves. Lets go over the process it took to get here!

 

Going into this project I had a hard time coming up with what I really wanted to do before choosing field hockey. I sketched a few other things but ultimately decided that field hockey would be the most fun subject. So I jumped on illustrator and started playing around with this! 

This was what I got the first day I started working on it. I thought it looked really good but realized after I took this screenshot that the body was disproportionate.

This is what it looked like when I fixed it! I really liked the stick and ball so I decided to incorporate those in all the other figures.

The third day working on this I came up with these three I wasn't quite sure what I was going to do with the third sticker but at the moment I was playing with what lettering might look good.

I realized that the black outline looked a little boring and separate so I wanted to know how I could tie them all in together. I tried inverting the colors first but realized I liked what they both looked like.

Then I cropped the sticker in and added color to the back of the black outlined one. I liked this even more but wasn't sure which I should do and which color would be best.

I did the same with the field player dribbling. Again I was not sure what color I liked best. 

Next I created a whole bunch of different colors and took a poll among my friends and colleagues which color they liked the best. The number one voted for was the purple so not personally being able to decide I chose that! 

Here is what my first draft looked like. I was pretty happy with it but looking back at it now it wasn't as good as I thought it was. My supervisor wasn't too appalled by it this time. The first thing he said was to make sure I wasn't stuck in the idea that it has to be all lines. I was kind of confused at what he meant by that at first but I am pretty sure I figured it out! Next he said the heads looked funky. He also said I should have clear rules for the limbs attached or detached. Then he also said that I shouldn't try to write my own font and then make the field hockey sticks less transparent. I wasn't really too set on this stereo typical crossed stick design but I wasn't sure what I should do then it hit me why not make another player doing a different move. 

I first made it so the faces looked like they were in a side profile view instead of the way they originally were. Then I decided to fill in everything that wasn't apart of the arms face, and shoes. I added a hair, hat, and headband line on each and made the sticks a solid lighter version of the background color. It looks so much better now! Let me know what you think!
