This is the movie poster that I composed for the latest assignment I have in the Illustrative Imaging class that I am taking at Wake Technical Community College. Below are the steps and images that I used.
This is the image that I began with. The photo was downloaded from:
I rotated the image so that it was upside down bringing the colorful part to the left top corner.
I then used this image: https://pixabay.com/photos/ngc-4414-spiral-galaxy-constellation-11016/
I then selected the spiraling galaxy part of the image and placed it in the upper right hand corner of the poster. I used a mask to help blend it in and raised the opacity so that it appeared to be a part of the photo underneath.
I then used this image: https://pixabay.com/photos/moon-eclipse-space-astronomy-lunar-2146596/
Here I selected the moon and placed into my project. I rotated the moon to have more of the dark side facing the right side.
I then placed this image: https://pixabay.com/photos/mountains-landscape-sunset-sunrise-440520/
and used a layer mask to remove and blend in the sky with the moon and galaxy so that it looks like clouds rising to the red moon.
Next came the octopus: https://pixabay.com/photos/octopus-polyp-sepia-blue-ocean-1164480/
I placed it on the top part of the moon and used the liquify effect to make the arms appear that they were moving along the moon's surface. I also erased the top arms so that the octopus looks as if it is moving from the back of the moon.
I then placed this man https://pixabay.com/illustrations/man-warrior-fantasy-sword-male-5636468/
the fore front of the poster. Because the image was a png I did not have to do much but place and scale the man into where I wanted him.
Now I placed the lady https://pixabay.com/photos/woman-girl-young-beauty-red-locks-5242907/
In front of the man after using the selection tool to remove her from the original image. I used a mask to help smooth out her edges and feathered her as well. I placed and scaled her to where I wanted her to be.
I used the rule of thirds to place both her and the man so that the mountains showed as well.
I then added the credits layer using a template that the professor provided. The fonts I used were
1. SteelTongs
2. Coalition
3. StarGuard
I really had fun doing this poster. The idea came from a sci-fi novel I read called "Hunters of the Red Moon" by Marion Zimmer Bradley and Paul Edwin Zimmer. If you like sci-fi books I would definitely suggest reading this one. It's really good.
