"Straw Hat"

Here's a study piece of “Heron Maiden” by Utamaro (1750-1806). I wanted to further focus in the details like the textures of the hat and her clothing. I love how Utamaro added the details of silk but I wanted to try turning the silk into a straw like texture and see how that fitted this little girl in my own style. The publisher of the original, Mainichi Shimbun, emphasizes on quality more than quantity, which is something I am reminding myself daily when I feel guilty in how slow and little work I'm producing compared to how many I imagine myself producing ... 🙃
