Stand up paddleboarding (SUP) is one of the fun ways of playing on the water. You can have the benefit of a full-body workout while having fun at the same time. Here are a few basic paddling techniques to make SUP more fun.

Begin by standing alongside the board in shallow water (knee-deep). Next, hold the board's edges to help you get into a kneeling position behind the board's center point. Carefully move your foot one at a time while holding both sides of the board and replace your knees with your feet. Furthermore, rise slowly by raising your chest while your knees are still bent, and slowly extend your legs to stand.

Another technique is staying balanced on the SUP. To achieve this, position your feet properly, so they are parallel. Keep your knees slightly bent, toes pointed forward, and back straight. Move your hips to shift your weight, and keep your shoulder and head straight. Avoid staring at your feet -- your focus should be on the horizon.

The reverse paddle turn helps you turn your paddleboard without moving your feet. The paddle slap is another technique that is like a brace aimed at giving additional stability, and helps to move around on the board.
