LAUK PAUK URBAN WARUNG

Branding

LAUK PAUK urban warung

Lauk Pauk is a casual eatery called 'warung' that serves delicious Malay cuisine prepared fresh from the kitchen. Tsubaki designed a new identity for this modern warung that helps position the brand’s unique fusion of Malay traditional food inspired by modern taste.

Lauk Pauk opened its first outlet within the premise of REX Kuala Lumpur in 2019. The Lauk Pauk brand identity goes well with the existing interior of mainly wood and raw material like aluminium. As Lauk Pauk grows, it wanted to have this flexibility to showcase visually the variety of Malay cooking. The identity also needed to show the brand’s cultural roots and Tsubaki was able to achieve this by way of imagery and character exploration through illustration that mirrors the modern Malays in Malaysia today.

Tsubaki revamped the Lauk Pauk logo – a combination of uppercase sans serif and lowercase serif letters that work together with the whole interior package to evoke the feeling of kampung, or village home.

The neon-like colour palette of bright blue and striking purple is used to make the visuals pop out from the woody and cool interior, and it accompanied with the restaurant signage and promotional materials (such as bunting, posters, menu, button badges, uniform tees, and LED displays boards) that used the Risograph printing method and even the wall that features groovy chimera-themed art.
