"Space jam" is a sweet juicy hookah flavour by a Russian company "Darkside tobacco". Client requested an A3 poster and an advertising web image. My idea was to create an "acidy" sweet 80's VHS picture, throwing back to times, when star_wars and retrowave were portrayed in a unique colorful way. A "jam" jar and a lollipop were chosen as symbols of sweetness and juiciness, while deathstar and a planet resembled a space vibe.
I wanted to create a colourful image, but still create an idea of how that would translate into a tobacco flavour. To accomplish that, I used photos of night sky and a planet graphic with a blurred retrowave blueish grid, masked into the jar image. The planet and a jar are surrounded bu clouds of tobacco smoke, which connect the internals of image with its background. After refinining the elements of the image I coloredited it to the point it had the purple-blue-magenta colorset to match the intended vibe. Before finishing working with this picture I added an adequate amount of noise to give it an analog 80's look. The retrowave font with a blue/purple gradient helped create a recognisable and noticable headline.
As said earlier, I used a lollipop as a symbol of sweetness. An attached deathstar image felt a good space_vibe addition. After shading the graphic I added a transparent lollipop photo to create a realistic look of a candy. To make it look even more as a sweet, I first color-corrected the lollypop and then the whole image. Clouds of smoke once again connected the image with the product it was meant to advertise. Adding the interferance effect and a digital color-distorted font, I tried to create a 80's VHS vibe. The last aftertouch was adding motion-blur to deathstar to connect its appearance with the overall image.
