Consumer Reports, 2011

Goal: Consumer Reports has a section for Cars on their website where users can browse through cars and look at the Consumer Report’s ratings when they are looking to buy a new car or trade-in one. The intended audience for this app was the younger users, hence an iPad app was considered.

Duration: 3 months

Process: 
- Created and referred existing personas to understand the users and the buying approach, as well as expectations.
- Worked with the user research team to gather required data.
- Looked at other competitor websites to understand their approach.
- Worked with other interaction designers and architects over multiple brainstorming sessions to come up with the designs for the iPad application. In each session, each designer came up with ideas individually. At the end of the session, every designer shared their ideas while the others critiqued it. The end result of the app was the result of the cumulative ideas of all designers, that was agreed by all.
- Once the design was mocked up, it was tested for usability in remote usability studies. The participants were both current subscribers and non-subscribers.
