Kasuthi

Kasuti work is traditionally done all along the border and red coloured tope teri deragu, the elaborate pallav of the saree. The motifs or butties in the body of the sari becomes smaller in size and gradually decreases  towards the pleats of the sari. Each sari can have as many as sixty to seventy motifs, repeated in a variety of colors, all over the body and pallav.
Kasuti started as domestic art which kept pace with the sculpturing, architectural work of their men folk, who built the temples and buildings with elaborate designs and colour combinations. The artistic women picked up designs like gopuram, deepamalas, Tulsi vrindavans, chariots, palanquine, the steeds of various gods etc.apart from many birds and animals. Kasuti is famous in many places in Bijapur, Dharwad, Belgaum and Jamkhandi districts. The hand, work, skill art and embroidery were considered as a complement for the individual.
