MELANCOLÍA GEOMÉTRICA

A project by JOTA SCARCELLA & MARIA COMA 2020

"Geometric Melancholy" is an artistic project of twelve photographs, where visual artists Maria Coma and Jota Scarcella join forces for the first time and create an imaginary world in which time is captured.
Jota Scarcella, originally from Salta, Argentina, has a style where geometric shapes and millimetrically studied compositions blend with vibrant color. His field is still-life, which Jota always takes to the extreme making us think sometimes that they have been created digitally, both for its sharpness and its imaginary world.
Jota creates most of the physical pieces we see in his still lifes with his hands, from the plane of the paper to the volume of the carpentry.
Maria Coma, originally from Barcelona, is an artist who uses color red as the flag of her work. Her much more organic compositions combine with elements such as pigment, fabrics and nature. Her photographs, with a much more improvised nature, have a tendency to melancholy.
As sharing their studio in Barcelona, Maria and Jota decided to combine their opposing and highly defined works, creating the series "Geometric Melancholy". The twelve photographs were carefully thought out and sketched before being created. The scenario of this imaginary world is the result of the combination of unreal visions and concerns that come from personal burdens and emotional blocks. In this, time stopped is a past that was not and a future that will not be, uncertainty becomes visual.
