DAD Assignment 1 (Art Movement Typeface) - Wani Malevich Suprematism Font
This assignment’s requirement was to select an art movement and create a typeface based on it while keeping in mind the current social environment. The art movement I decided to go with was Suprematism. It was founded by a Russian man named Kazimir Malevich and he designed it based on "the supremacy of pure artistic feeling". It is an abstract art which focuses on using basic geometric shapes such as circles, lines, and rectangles rather than actual objects. The main inspiration for this project was Malevich’s art and his focus on creating paintings based on pure feelings.
Suprematism was also created as a revolution was taking place in Russia and this could be correlated to how in the USA, people are trying to take down white supremacy. However, this does not mean that Suprematism was created as a way to convey political messages. Instead, Malevich was against that idea and wanted to promote ‘absolute abstraction’ and a disconnect from all physical objects.
