Geisha Inspired Concept
'Geisha' is a Japanese term given to women who are professionally trained in the traditional arts of music. dance and communication.
I was inspired by my memories of growing up and watching the movie 'Memoirs of a Geisha' (originally a book written by Arthur Golden). It was a story focused on tragedy and beauty and it really stuck with me through out.
As a result, I created this piece in hopes of taking the concept of love, power and pain, pushing myself to depict that there is a deeper story behind this character.
The idea of her hair being undone and flowing free, alongside her shoulder being exposed, implies a sense of 'breaking free' from what is expected of oneself.
Here, nature is beginning to bloom and some sort of 'orb' is floating above her hand. I was trying emulate that there is a change in this character as lights and petals are floating around her.
