Broken Promises
Vorkuta, Russia

-

Vorkuta is located north of the Arctic Circle in Russia. There is no road leading to Vorkuta, the only road known as The Ring Road connects town with hamlets around the area.

Vorkuta town have been risen as part of the Gulag Archipelago. Vorkuta region had the second largest coal fields in USSR. From late 30s to late 50s the region have been exploited by thousands of prisoners which most of them died. In the late 80s due to rising costs, coal mines have been slowly closing down. Afterwards number of inhabitants have dramatically dwindled, leading to hamlets closures which is called frizzing by Russians. It means that inhabitants of random tower blocks are being successfully moved to one of them so then the hamlet slowly dies.
