Plastic is not the Future

Introduction -
Plastic is not the Future is a series of public service advertisements aimed at raising awareness and understanding the detrimental effects of plastic and plastic pollution on marine life.

Design approach -
Simple line illustrations depict three distinct concepts. The use of watercolour backgrounds are a play on the water and the marine life. It is also used to stimulate the idea of water through a difference in texture and depth.
The first advertisement uses typography to depict the vast deposits of plastic in the oceans. The typography is
all grouped to symbolise a large heap of garbage. The words are all items that are commonly found in the ocean. The words are written in different orientations, colour variations and styles to depict the difference in the items as well as to add a sense of depth. The illustrated rock formations are present to show that plastic has reached all depths and parts of the oceans.
The second advertisement depicts the coral reefs and their progressing extinction. Using line illustrations, a vast array of coral have been drawn. The watercolour background is maintained but a gradient element is used to show that a lot of the coral are already dead and it is continuously approaching the rest and will eventually kill it as well.
The final advertisement is a play on the use of plastic cups and straws. The illustration portrays the water and marine life in the cup and is symbolic for how the cup is a cage where everything gets harmed or even dies. The straw that doubles as a knife depicts the horrible effects of straws on marine life, in particular turtles.
As this is a series of advertisements I also designed a logo as a representation for the campaign. The logo is a simple line illustration and is a play on the concept of Yin and Yang. The lines depict the waves of the ocean and the other half has the text about plastic. This symbolises the constant struggle between the two that should actually be a balance but sadly isn't. The circle also symbolises the circle of life and how important it is to have a plastic free future.
Thank you!
