Kadir Nelson
I curated and designed these sample pages as a project for Doug Scott's book design class at RISD. I've admired Nelson's work on the covers of the New Yorker for a little while now so when Doug asked us to prototype a book that was "half text, half image"—and said that we could pick our own art and text—I settled on Nelson pretty quickly.
The text is Capitolium 2 by Gerard Unger. Titles are Praxis Next, also Unger. And the art, of course, is all Nelson's (with a few exceptions).
For the text copy, I just pulled a random New Yorker article on another artist, Liu Xia, and swapped Nelson's name in for Liu's to make it feel vaguely connected.
