The Dutch Mountain Film Festival is an international film festival which takes place in my hometown, Heerlen. The festival is mainly about mountains and during the festival films, documentaries and short films about mountains will be shown, but there are also lectures you can attend, workshops you can participate in and visual art and mountain photography which you can admire.

These are not the only activities. There are also some hiking routes in Zuid-Limburg. Zuid-Limburg is known for its hilly landscape, and has some higher hills where you can take beautiful walks. 7 of those higher hills, which are, in Dutch called 'berg' (mountain), are appointed to a 'summit' - the 7 summits.
The festival has set out hiking routes on these summits, and that is what this project is about.

The director of the festival asked us to design maps for these hiking routes, as well as a map with the locations of the summits and asked us to design 1 or 2 concepts first, and that is what exactly you will see here. As you can see, one of the concepts is created in Adobe Illustrator, and the other one is created with some fineliners and watercolor. The one created with watercolor is the one I liked the best and the reason why I developed this one into a final design. (See the end of this project)
Thanks for watching!
