Urbn Vino is the creation of winemaker and entrepreneur Brendan Seal. I've worked with him often over the years on his various projects, creating bespoke designs for his ventures.
His inaugural release was The Writer's Block Pinot Noir. This extremely limited edition was produced from premium fruit grown on the Packspur Vineyard in Central Otago.
A few years of Writer's Block releases and Brendan wanted to broaden his portfolio. I developed a concept for his umbrella brand The Wine Studio. An elaborate illustration of Brendan hard at work crushing grapes in a basket press in a the dramatic landscape of his Packspur Winery failed to find favour and the concept never saw the light of day. What the hell Brendan!
Brendan's most inspired project was to open a winery in the heart of Dunedin. Urbn Vino captured the imagination of the public and the press and has been a great success. For the flagship release Brendan commissioned a local artist to create an illustration of a Dunedin street scene, which he then forwarded to me with the vaguest of briefs. Sometimes the first obvious solution is the best - the octagon shaped label and simple typography perfectly captured the Urbn Vino vibe.
