2PM Architects were approached to design a partially sunken side extension on an unusual L-shape corner site to this end of terrace house in Ealing, West London.
The design provides the existing house with a new dual-aspect open-plan living space, accessed from a newly inserted landing and staircase leading down into the space from the existing entrance hall, past a new glazed courtyard to the front elevation of the house. A new kitchen and dining room is created adding a significant amount of extra floor space to the house and which has allowed the conversion of the existing dining room into a new study. The new extension opens directly onto the south facing garden terrace with full-height sliding-folding glass doors, allowing the space to become semi-external for dining and entertaining during the summer
