Hong Kong’s Critical Morphologies: ‘Invisible City Kaleidoscope’

Tutor: Anneli Giencke

Students are challenged to translate three spatial elements into paper models, as described in Italo Calvino’s Invisible Cities text. The focus is to transform these elements, through a series of steps that move from two-dimensional explorations into three dimensional qualities. These paper models form the basis for digital tracings that are further repeated and manipulated before being recomposed into kaleidoscopic collages. Each kaleidoscope is a virtual propositions that creates an illusion of three-dimensionality and whilst testing how design produces immersive experiences.
