Visiting the very place where this craft is striving to survive, and interacting with the artisans who have been practicing for many years was a very exhilarating experience. I personally felt a deep connection with the craft while observing the processes and trying my hands on the fabric. The dyes and resist mixtures used are mostly natural and the results are fascinating.

We, as a group of around 30 people, had the opportunity to visit Dhamadka, 50 Km near Bhuj, and learn from the skillful artisans, Aziz Yakub Khatri and Hanzala Bhai. A 3 days trip to Dhamadka and a trunk of knowledge and goodness.
Resist printing (white/off white parts) on mordanted fabric (outline block)
Black print with iron and jaggery paste using filler block
Tamarind seed powder and alum paste for red base fabric

The craft lives on to mesmerize everyone with its beautiful colors and vibe.
