S  P O K E D  is a Cape Town based partnership comprised of four artisan Industrial Designers. As a company, our aim is to allow customization through natural modifiable bicycle grips.

 

Product:

 

The product that was manufactured is a bicycle grip that is aimed at the bicycle commuting community, which enables the user to customize their bicycle to fit their particular persona. The grips are designed to provide a high quality artisan finish.

 

This was achieved by designing individual cork rings that enable simple repair/replacement, and adjustment. Specially designed aluminium clamps (lock-rings) provided the ideal stiffness and lock-security of the grips on handlebars. The selection of materials is intended to aid this learning process and extend the life span of the product, through additional aid provided by the available recycling facilities. Laser cutting of Birch Plywood provided the ideal means for packaging.
