SCULPTURE
The White of Carrara
"See a block
think about the image:
the image is inside
you just have to undress it."

(Michelangelo Buonarroti)
In 2018 I shoot a still life photographic set for an Italian sculptor who was commissioned to create a bust of Alda Merini, a famous Italian poetess lived in Milano between 1931 and 2009.
In addition to the bust, I wanted to photograph the other works that the sculptor was created over the years, creating his own photographic book that contains the project he loves most.

All the sculptures are entirely handmade with the white Carrara marble.

I choose to take these photographs using a blue velvet cloth as a background to bring out the white of the marble without directly contrasting it with a deep and flat black.
Moreover, I think that the soft folds of the fabric, with cuts of light that bring out blue only in some areas, perfectly combine with the softness of the curved shapes of the sculptures.
Parallel to the photos I made a backstage video of the entire working day.
