Reflection on lecture

I found the lecture really interesting and it really challenged and gave my view on hotels a new view. I really engaged with the idea of hyperreality and the way that once you walk into a hotel sometimes you was ok into its own city.

One thing that I found interesting was that in chain hotels like the Hilton os how when you walk into any hotel no matter where is it it is always the same. I really thought about this and realised it is so true. After trafficking around america last Christmas I found that every best western I went into had the exact layout room design and service, with the exception of one having a external café and some having a bed and breakfast set up. I find that this way of doing things with chain hotels rely lets the stay experience down and you don’t full get to experience the place you are in. It made me think about my area in Coolangatta and how majority of the accomodation is plane white typical Gold Coast high rise bar one building, the pink hotel. This hotel is so original and I feel really refits the vibe of Coolangatta and I really found this helped me under stand the lecture more.

The power of image in hotel advertising is so strong. When given a choice of where to stay most holiday goers will probably choose a newer cleaner hotel  rather than a older one that is a bit run down. I think this is really important and if you are wanting to create a space that is specific to the area you must also keep it modern and up to date in order for it to be affected.
Exploration of hyper reality

For some hyperreality might be relieving and calming but for most it is taking away from the experience. When travelling the whole Idea is to experience the place you are in. From the architecture, smell and food right down to the fabrics used, the service an
Location scouting

Location 1

Kirra shelter shack

Constructed in 1969 and remodelled in 2004 the Kirra Shelter shack is a well used location by tourists and locals. The shack is in special association with the Kirra surf Life Saving Club. It currently incorporates the footings and ornate architectural style of the original shelter shack. It has elements to it that also resemble characteristics of other shelter shacks that no longer exist in the area. The Beach side shed with its perfect ocean view has high aesthetic value. This shack has become an irreplaceable local icon

Hotels in the area

The pink hotel
The pink hotel is located on Coolangatta Main Street facing the water. It os the only accomodation that stands out in the area and really reflects Coolangatta history. The hotel is a completely restored mid century architectural masterpiece. The hotel really resembles the history of Coolangatta
Greenmount Beach Hotel

The Greenmount Beach hotel is perfectly placed right in gathering heart of two of the best beaches on the Gold Coast. The hotels exterior is one you relate straight to Coolangatta and the feel from the minuet you enter is Australia and Gold Coast. It has been developed from its original state and has kept interior features
Reflections

Reflections in Coolangatta is one of the more chain like hotels in the area. The design is very Gold Coast tourists and with the perfect location it is the most suitable place for a cheap, clean and convenient stay. The reflections is two buildings on the Main Street of Coolangatta and when you walk into both it is the perfect example of hyperreality as they are nearly identical inside.
