AAM - The Military Honor for Non-Combat Service

Paul Camara of Brooklyn, Connecticut has served as president of Axion Specialty Contracting based in Massachusetts since 2012. Long before his current position, Paul Camara served in the military where he was awarded the Army Achievement Medal (AAM) in 1997.

The AAM was created to recognize military service members for their work during non-combat activities. The idea for creating an award for military members working under non-combat conditions was born in 1980, and just a year later, the military began recognizing service members who were below the rank of colonel for the achievement.

The octagonal, bronze medal is one and a half inches in diameter. The Department of Army plaque with the year 1775 is on the front of the medal. The backside of the medal reads “For Military Achievement,” and leaves space for the recipient’s name.

The medal awarded to service members who distinguished themselves from fellow service members through meritorious service or achievement. This service or achievement is less than that needed for a Commendation Medal.
