Oyster And Pearl
This piece uses common materials, and dresses them up to become more extravagant than they are in their normal use. The shape of the object, as well as the relationship of the sphere in a shell-like bowl reference a pearl sitting in an oyster to further reinforce the idea of wealth and extravagance in this sculpture. The matte finish of the felt, and the metallic nature of the staple create a contrast in finish to make their relationship more dynamic.
