Rosa Damascena

This watercolour was my first attempt at hyperrealism from back in 2018. I was watching Andrew Graham-Dixon's, "The Secret of Drawing" and was so intrigued by how the evolution of technology fuelled the development of drawing. Interestingly, this was the case for hyperrealistic illustrations of nature with the invention of the microscope and improvements made to the telescope. So jumping in this is what I came up with first. A damask rose captured during a light drizzle in February was the subject. My intention was to create as realistic a depiction as possible using my skills at the time. The resulting illustration acts as an analogy for that moment right before the grand reveal of a story's climax, in the same manner as the flower before it shows its seeds.
