Project Overview

Working with the Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust we created a microsite to track the winter migration of 20 Whooper swans from the UK to thier breeding grounds in Iceland.

The unique part of this project was not only the complicated number crunching from the live swan data and placing the swans on a Google Map, but we wanted to go one step further and place them on Google Earth, allowing the user to see the exact surrounding area the bird was situated in be it at 150 feet in the air or on the side of a steep mountain ledge.
The Homepage

We designed the homepage with tracking in mind. The user would see all swans latest position, but also have the ability to rewind and see previous positions in time.

The page also presented photos of the swans in migration and their vital satisitics.

Also featured is a daily blog from the experts at WWT.

Users were also invited to submit pictures to and videos of any of the swans on location as they migrated from the UK.
Below is the full lising of birds showing two swans in position on Google Earth.
